Head of Economic Development: £60k - £65k

This person will work in collaboration with a wide range of partners and stakeholders to bring about a focused approach to economic development, drawing on capacity and expertise within the council and with other organisations. Highly developed programme / project management abilities will be vital - alongside strong influencing skills, so that you can maintain an informed and involved perspective on the different strands of economic development at any given time.

You’ll help to define and promote the Worcester offer to different audiences – so you’ll need to have a good sense of how to articulate a proposition to investors and visitors. It’s a role with a wide remit, with operational aspects such as the management of the Tourist Information Centre sitting alongside longer-term strategic issues such as the skills and training agendas. You’ll also play a leading role in the planning and the delivery of the City Council’s major capital regeneration programmes and the submission of the City Council’s 2022 bid for Levelling Up Funding.

We expect that you’ll have proven experience in economic development in an urban setting and an informed appreciation of the levers available to councils and other partners to affect and catalyse economic activity. It’s essential that you have a detailed understanding of funding streams available to the Council, and you should be able to demonstrate previous success in the submission of bidding proposals. The ability to foster positive working relationships with partner organisations is vital, and you’ll be able to make the most of these connections to ensure the Council continues to influence and support economic opportunities in the City.
